چکیده

Modern systems must be adaptable | to changing requirements, bug-xes, new technologies and reconnguration. For critical applications this must be possible at run-time; for complex applications it should be limitable to major subdivisions of the system. The DRASTIC architecture addresses these goals by exploiting object persistence and distributed systems implementation techniques. It enables run-time changes of types, implementations, and the system connguration. This is based on a novel architectural abstraction of locality for evolution, called thèzone'. Contracts between zones automatically limit the visibility of such changes between zones. We present work in progress on DRASTIC's computational model and run-time system, illustrating support for software evolution and highlighting key features of our current implementation. A slightly shorter version of this paper appears in the ECOOP'97 conference proceedings. This document contains more information on the DRASTIC implementation details and related work.

Supporting Software Evolution in a Distributed, Persistent System

Current enterprise infrastructures based on CORBA have to rely on ad-hoc mechanisms for system software evolution. The CORBA services speci cations do not address the problems associated with evolving modern software systems, leaving the programmer to manage the complexity. The DRASTIC system provides a run-time environment in which the evolution of software is directly supported. With referenc...

Architectural Plan for Constructing Fault Tolerable Workflow Engines Based on Grid Service

In this paper the design and implementation of fault tolerable architecture for scientific workflow engines is presented. The engines are assumed to be implemented as composite web services. Current architectures for workflow engines do not make any considerations for substituting faulty web services with correct ones at run time. The difficulty is to rollback the execution state of the workflo...

Multi-computer platforms that incorporate FPGAs and other reconfigurable processors are emerging as powerful computing architectures capable of exploiting many levels of parallelism for a range of applications. The novelty of this technology, combined with the drastic differences between architectures, has resulted in a lack of tools for developing applications and maintaining portability acros...
